What is the Importance of Social Media in  Communication

To understand the importance of social media like facebook, twitter, and the likes in communication, you have to, first of all, understand what communication is.
What is communication? Communication is the process of sending information from one person to another, from one group to another via a medium or channel. The fact that you have created a campaign and inserted a product description in it does not mean that you will be understood.
Let me go down to the basics of communication. For communication to take place effectively, you must have these four elements namely:

What are the stages of communication in social media?

Here are the stages of communication:
  • Sender
  • Medium or Channel
  • Receiver
  • feedback

Importance of communication in social media

SENDER
The sender can be described as the initiator of a communication. Some of the variables to keep in mind when initiating communications are as follows:
1.    Targeted Audience: What categories of people do you want your message to get through to e.g Young adults, elderly, etc.
2.    Environment: Are the people in your environment learned, what is the predominant social status or class, what are the spending habits of the people in your environment etc.
In addition as a sender, you should be able to turn your thoughts into communication; this process is called encoding

MEDIUM
Medium simply means the channels through which you intend to use to communicate. Finding the right medium of communication increases the chances of your message getting through to your targetted audience. E.g if I want to get through to a specific group of people on TikTok, using a Facebook ad as my medium of communication will in no way get my message across. With this in view, I will want to stress the fact that getting the right medium is not sufficient alone you should also know how to use the medium effectively. For instance, when creating Facebook ads, there are various options such as ads for awareness, ads for engagement, etc. Not knowing which one to use will be counterproductive.

Receiver
The receiver can be described as the person, group, or audience to whom a message is directed. Remember that I wrote that before you send a message, you must keep in mind the targetted audience. Not obeying this rule will lead to sending a message to the wrong people. once the receiver decodes that the message is not targeted to him or her, you will get no response at all. This in general leads to wasted time and effort.

Feedback

Feedback can be described as the response of a person group or audience to a message. The role of feedback should not be downplayed because the information you get as feedback can be used to improve your business. Without feedback, you may not be able to pinpoint where a challenge is coming from in your business or what you need to improve. Want I want you to focus on when getting feedback is constructive criticism and not destructive criticism. The latter is dangerous while the former can help you build your business well.

The consequence of neglecting the elements of communication

If any of these elements is lacking the communication circle will be greatly affected negatively. Narrowing this down to a business, a business cannot thrive if there is a gap in communication with your customers. For instance no matter how a Chinese man who is skilled in marketing promotes a software product to me in his language, though he may be very skilled, his efforts will be in vain; why do you think he failed to convince me?. The answer is simply because of the language barrier.
